Scope of works

The Authority has agreed to take over the ownership of the theatre in education contract from the council, a decision was made to continue with the incumbent supplier for a period of 1 year, allowing the Authority working alongside the council, to run a competitive process for a replacement contract which will go live September 2028. This contract is for 1 year only with no extension options and is for the delivery of the following: Four-week tour (40 schools) with a target number for 7200 students. Split Second is a dynamic, multimedia theatre performance that follows three students, whose fast-paced, carefree lives reflect the reality of many young people today. Through their shifting friendships and everyday choices, the play explores how distractions, peer influence, and time pressures can impact their behaviour as pedestrians. A series of small decisions ultimately leads to a life-changing incident, highlighting the importance of road awareness and safe decision-making. The accompanying workshop reinforces the production's key learning outcomes, with a focus on: • The leading causes of pedestrian KSIs • The personal and wider consequences of KSIs • External influences on young people's behaviour • Practical strategies for managing attitudes and making safer choices on the road Using interactive techniques such as hot-seating, pupils have the opportunity to challenge characters directly and unpack their choices. The session culminates in the re-staging of a pivotal moment from the play, allowing pupils to intervene and guide the characters towards safer outcomes. This empowers students to recognise risk, resist negative peer influence and build confidence in choosing safer behaviours
