Scope of works
We are procuring the services of a specialist demolition contractor to safely and efficiently demolish two defective structures located on the Castle Eden Walkway. The structures are experiencing significant defects and structural failures, and assessments have determined that repairing them to a safe and serviceable standard would incur costs substantially greater than those associated with demolition. After expressions of interest were requested from all 14 suppliers on the NEPO221 Lot 1b framework The tender was sent out to 5 suppliers with 2 bids being returned and the successful supplier scoring 88% of the total 100% available for Price and Quality. No Social Value was requested on this tender as the expected time for demolition is 2 - 3 weeks. The structures no longer serve any functional purpose and therefore do not justify the significant investment required for repair or ongoing maintenance. In addition, their deteriorated condition presents a potential safety risk to members of the public using the walkway beneath and around them. Demolition is therefore the most cost-effective, proportionate, and risk-based solution to eliminate the hazard, protect public safety, and remove the future maintenance liability associated with these redundant assets.
