Scope of works
The Radioactive Substances Regulation (RSR) Nuclear Workforce Strategy has highlighted the need for RSR to diversify its approach to the recruitment of the nuclear specialists it needs in the future. This is a result of a skills shortage in the nuclear industry due to a mix of increased work on major nuclear projects and demographics of the established workforce. This has tightened the labour market and made it difficult for the Agency to recruit experienced nuclear specialists. A strand of the Nuclear Workforce Strategy is to make use of the nuclear industry’s established ‘nuclear graduates’ programme. This is a self-contained graduate recruitment, training and development programme. This is a well-established programme in the nuclear industry, taking around 40 graduates per year and putting them through a structured secondment and training programme throughout the nuclear industry. This programme is: • the only scheme of this nature available; • highly regarded in the nuclear industry; an important contribution to RSR’s development pipeline for nuclear specialists, providing recruits whose structured development and training has been tailored to meet the Agency’s needs.
